Mobile Alarm system

Phone alerts during emergencies came a step closer to reality Thursday, when the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is a framework for a national, mobile alarm system.

The Mobile Commercial Alert System (CMAS) is a voluntary system wireless providers available to send the text message blasts in the event of a national disaster such as Hurricane Katrina, or the 11th September 2001 terrorist attacks.

Alerts will be available in three forms: presidential headlines; threat headlines and child abduction emergency or Amber headlines.
